About Hitachi
Hitachi was founded in 1910 by the electrical engineer Namihei Odaira in Ibaraki Prefecture, and began making electrical parts for cars in 1930. Hitachi's car parts business became Hitachi Automotive Systems, which merged with Keihin, Showa and Nissin Kogyo in January 2021 to form Hitachi Astemo, renamed Astemo in April 2025 and based in Chuo, Tokyo.
Hitachi ignition coils are fitted as original equipment to Nissan engines, among them the RB26DETT of the Skyline GT-R.
