GR Yaris RZ

The GR Yaris RZ

The GR Yaris exists because Toyota wanted a road car to base its World Rally Championship Yaris on, and the five-door Yaris did not suit. Revealed at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2020 and on sale in Japan from 4 September 2020, it has its own three-door body: the front of the car is on the Yaris's GA-B platform, the rear on the larger GA-C, with an aluminium bonnet, doors and tailgate and a carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic roof. It is built on a dedicated GR Factory line at Toyota's Motomachi plant.

The RZ is the road car. Its G16E-GTS is a 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder making 272 PS at 6,500 rpm and 370 Nm from 3,000 to 4,600 rpm, through a six-speed manual with iMT rev matching and GR-FOUR four-wheel drive, which splits torque 60:40 in Normal, 30:70 in Sport and 50:50 in Track. The RZ High performance adds Torsen limited-slip differentials front and rear, a water spray for the intercooler and forged BBS wheels. The 2024 facelift brought more power and an eight-speed automatic.

What GR Yaris owners upgrade

Many RZs see circuit days, and what owners buy shows it: roll cages and floor mats from the interior range, aero kits and rear wings from exterior, and pads from the brakes range, where Endless is a favourite.

The small turbo engine makes a lot of heat for its size, so oil coolers and intercooler piping from the cooling range are common, along with catalytic converters from the exhaust range and intakes and ducts. Chassis bracing and bushes sharpen the handling. Gazoo Racing, HKS, TRD, Varis, Cusco and Result Japan are among the names owners choose.

Genuine parts

Little of the GR Yaris's body is shared with the ordinary Yaris: the doors, bonnet, tailgate, roof and rear structure are its own, so a regular Yaris panel will not fit. Aluminium and composite panels are also repaired differently from steel, which makes genuine replacements the usual answer after damage. Our genuine Toyota parts catalogue covers the RZ.

Wheels

The GR Yaris has five studs on a 114.3 mm PCD with M12 x 1.5 nuts, and the RZ came on 18x8 +45 wheels. Other sizes are listed under wheels that fit the GR Yaris RZ.
