Denso was founded in 1949 in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, as Nippondenso, after becoming independent from Toyota Motor, and is still headquartered in Kariya.

Denso makes spark plugs, climate control systems, engine and hybrid components, instrument clusters, airbags and radar, and supplies parts for Toyota's racing programmes.
