Yokohama Wheels Buying Guide
ADVAN Racing is Yokohama Rubber's sports wheel range, sold under the Yokohama Wheel name. Choosing among its models comes down to how each is made, the sizes it comes in, and the brakes it has to clear.
Forged models
The GT family sits at the top. Yokohama Rubber launched the ADVAN Racing GT in 2012 as the range's flagship, a die-forged one-piece wheel. GT BEYOND is the first update of that design: forged from A6061 aluminium alloy, in 17 to 20 inches, with a barrel-shaped rim to clear larger brakes and knurling to stop the tyre slipping on the rim. GT HEAVY DUTY applies the same idea to trucks and SUVs on a 6 x 139.7 mm bolt pattern.
RZ-F2 is the forged version of the cast RZII and the range's first forged full-face design, in 18 inches only. A reverse rim profile saves weight but rules out the 380 mm-plus brake rotors that some other forged ADVAN wheels clear, so check the brakes first if the car has a big kit.
Cast models
The cast wheels cover more cars and sizes. Yokohama Wheel's Japan-made cast wheels have the inner rim flow-formed after casting, then are heat-treated to T6.
- RG-4, named for racing and gymkhana, is a slim six-spoke in 17 and 18 inches.
- RG-D2 is a one-piece six-spoke from 15 to 18 inches; the 18-inch rim profile is made for rotors up to 400 mm, caliper permitting.
- TC-4 is a five-spoke full-face design from 15 to 18 inches.
- Oni2 brings back the triangle design of the original ADVAN wheel as a one-piece step-rim wheel in 14 and 15 inches on a 4 x 100 mm pattern, for kei and compact cars.
Faces and fitment
RG-4, TC-4 and RG-D2 each come in Standard, GTR and Super GTR faces. The deeper concave goes with wider rims and lower insets, so the face follows from the width and inset you choose rather than being picked separately. Settle the PCD, inset and brake clearance for your car, then the design.
ADVAN Racing centre caps come in 63 mm and 73 mm to match the wheel's bore, and the wheels need nuts with the right seat; see wheel nuts and bolts. Hub-centric fitment is covered under hub rings, and the general wheels guide explains offset and sizing.
