Volk Racing Buying Guide
Volk Racing is RAYS' forged wheel brand, made in Japan by RAYS, whose base is Higashiosaka in Osaka. Volk Racing wheels are forged, so the choice among them is about design, size range and the car they are built for, rather than construction.
TE37: the six-spoke family
The TE37 arrived in 1996 as RAYS' first one-piece forged Volk Racing wheel, its name from Touring Evolution and the 3.7 kg of the original 15 x 6.0J. The six spokes have since been worked into versions for particular cars:
- TE37 Saga (2017) for 17-inch and larger fitments, including the S-plus and lighter SL.
- TE37 Sonic for kei and compact cars.
- TE37V (2010) with the deep lip and offsets of vintage rear-drive cars, and the V-PRO and Mark-II.
- TE37 Ultra (2014) for 19 and 20-inch sizes carrying higher loads, such as the R35 GT-R, with Large P.C.D. versions.
- TE37XT for SUVs and pickups, made to the JWL-T standard for commercial vehicle wheels.
The other ranges
- CE28N-plus (2023) carries on the CE28N, the range built above all for low weight, with a lighter SL version.
- ZE40 (2014) has ten slim spokes and was designed for rigidity, in 16 to 18-inch sizes; the ZE40X is its version for SUVs and 4x4s.
- 21A and 21C (2022 onwards) are one-piece forged mesh wheels with cross spokes, after RAYS' Gr.A of the 1980s.
- G025 and the G series have a more styled, street-led look.
Choosing
Start from fitment: bolt pattern (P.C.D.), centre bore, diameter, width and offset for your car and tyres. Then the range: a TE37 or ZE40 for strength in track use, a CE28N-plus where weight matters most, a TE37V for an older car, a 21A for the mesh look. Each model is offered only in the sizes RAYS lists for it, so the size you need can decide the model.
