The NGK Ignition Coils are offered in two types, block type and pencil type. In internal combustion engines that use spark plugs, a high voltage of 20,000 to 35,000 V is required to discharge in the combustion chamber during the compression stroke. The ignition coil is a type of transformer that converts the 12V battery voltage to the high voltage required to discharge the spark plugs. Basically, it consists of a primary coil, secondary coil, and core (iron core), and the case is filled with epoxy resin to ensure insulation between these parts.
Features
- Primary coil: Approximately 100 to 200 turns of wire of approximately 0.3 to 0.6 mm
- Secondary coil: Approximately 10,000 to 20,000 turns of thin electric wire of approximately 0.03 to 0.06 mm
- Core (iron core): A ferrous metal that serves as the axis of the primary and secondary coils
