Civic Type R

The FL5 Civic Type R

The FL5 is the sixth Civic Type R, built on the eleventh-generation Civic's five-door hatchback at Honda's Yorii plant in Saitama. Honda showed it in July 2022 and put it on sale in Japan on 2 September 2022. Before launch, a development car lapped Suzuka in 2:23.120, a record there for a front-wheel-drive car.

The engine is the K20C, a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with VTEC, carried over from the FK8 with a new turbocharger and now rated at 330 PS at 6,500 rpm and 420 Nm. It drives the front wheels through a six-speed manual, the only gearbox, and a helical limited-slip differential; rev-matching now works on the change from second to first as well. Brembo calipers grip two-piece front discs, and the tyres are 265/30R19 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. In January 2025 Honda added the Racing Black Package, which trades the red interior for black suede and trim and changes nothing mechanical.

What FL5 owners upgrade

FL5 owners spend first on what they see and touch. Steering wheels lead the interior buys, and carbon bonnets, side steps and rear wings from the exterior range change the body, with replacement tail lights from the lights range.

On a circuit the standard brakes can fade after a few hard laps, so owners who take the car on track fit stronger pads from the brake range and change the fluid. Strut braces from the handling range firm up the front end, and blow-off valves, engine fittings, oil filters and wheel nuts are regular buys. HKS, Mugen, Spoon, J's Racing, Garage Vary and Kics Racing Gear are among the names owners choose.

Genuine parts

Even the oldest FL5 is a young car, so the genuine parts it needs are mostly service and wear items. Track use is where they go fastest: front pads can be worn out in a day, and the discs are the first part of the system to suffer from heat. Oil filters, brake parts, body panels and trim are in our genuine Honda parts catalogue.

Wheels

The FL5 left the factory on 19x9.5 +60 wheels, on a 5x120 bolt pattern with M14 x 1.5 wheel nuts. Other sizes are listed under wheels that fit the FL5.
