The Lancer Evolution Wagon

The only estate Evo was announced in September 2005: the Lancer Wagon's five-door body, reinforced largely by hand, around the Evo IX's running gear. Mitsubishi planned it as a limited run of about 2,500 cars in two grades, both with the MIVEC 4G63, Brembo brakes, Bilstein dampers and an aluminium bonnet.

The GT has the six-speed manual and the saloon's 280 PS and 392 Nm. The GT-A pairs a five-speed INVECS-II automatic with a smaller turbo, for 272 PS and 343 Nm. Both have the Active Centre Differential, but not AYC: the rear differential is a mechanical 1.5-way LSD, and the GT adds a helical front LSD. An MR version followed in August 2006.

What Evo Wagon owners upgrade

Owners of this rare car buy most for its looks. Laile and Varis aero kits, underpanels and diffusers, and rear wings and spoilers are the leading orders. HKS full exhaust systems and pod filters for the intake come next, with blow-off valves for the turbo and engine covers to dress the bay.

For the chassis, strut braces and bushes and collars tighten a long estate body, and handling parts from Cusco and Rigid Collar are regular buys, alongside brake pads from Endless. Colt Speed, Tomei and Blitz are also among the names Evo Wagon owners choose.

Genuine parts

Without AYC, the Wagon skips the pump and fluid upkeep that system brings on the saloons, though the ACD still wants its own fluid changes. Its body behind the front doors is the Lancer Wagon's, not the saloon's, so tailgate, rear door and rear bumper parts are particular to this car, and few were built.

Wheels

The Evo Wagon has M12 x 1.5 wheel nuts and came on 17x8 +38 wheels with 235/45R17 tyres. BBS forged wheels were an option. See wheels that fit the Evo Wagon.
