The seventh-generation Mark II went on sale in October 1992 and was built until August 1996. With 206,389 registered, it outsold both its Chaser and Cresta siblings. From this generation the Mark II was made for Japan alone, sold only as a four-door hardtop, and every version was wide enough to need 3-number plates. The Grande was the top of the range, and the Grande G came with ABS, traction control and a digital instrument cluster as standard.
The Tourer V is the sports model: a reinforced body and sports suspension around the 1JZ-GTE, a 2,491 cc twin-turbo straight-six with 280 PS at 6,200 rpm and 363 Nm at 4,800 rpm, driving the rear wheels. With the five-speed manual it came with a limited-slip differential as standard; with the four-speed automatic the differential was an option. New bumpers and tail lights arrived in September 1994, and a driver's airbag became standard across the range a year later.
Clutch kits from the drivetrain range sell most for the JZX90 Mark II, ORC's in particular, followed by boost controllers and other engine electronics from HKS, APEXi and Blitz. A larger intercooler kit from the cooling range and a fresh radiator cap help the twin-turbo engine hold its temperatures.
Pads and rotors from the brakes range, with Project Mu the usual choice, and arms, stabilisers and tie rod ends from the handling range from makers such as Cusco, D-Max and Ikeya Formula, renew a chassis now three decades old. Baffled oil pans and Works Bell steering wheel boss kits are regular buys too.
The crank pulley is two parts bonded by rubber, which hardens with age until the pulley can come apart, and the front crank seal is known to leak; renew both with the timing belt. Bumpers and tail lights depend on whether the car was built before or after September 1994. Our genuine Toyota parts catalogue lists them.
Factory wheels for the JZX90 Mark II are 15x6 +50, 16x6.5 +50 and 16x7.5 +55, with M12 x 1.5 wheel nuts; the Tourer V had 16-inch alloys as standard. The wheels that fit the JZX90 Mark II page lists more.
