The JZX90 Cresta

The fourth-generation Cresta was launched in October 1992 and sold through Toyota's Vista dealers until September 1996. Where the Mark II and Chaser are four-door hardtops, the Cresta is a four-door sedan, and its range leaned towards comfort, led by the Super Lucent and Super Lucent G. The sports grades were the Tourer S and the Tourer V, the latter with the twin-turbo 1JZ-GTE: 2,491 cc, 280 PS at 6,200 rpm and 363 Nm at 4,800 rpm, driving the rear wheels.

The Tourer V was offered with a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual, the manual with a limited-slip differential as standard. That makes it the last Cresta with both a turbo and a manual gearbox: the JZX100 Roulant G that followed was automatic only. Four-wheel-drive Super Lucent Four models joined in October 1993, and the September 1994 facelift brought a new grille, bumpers and tail lights.

What JZX90 Cresta owners upgrade

Electronics lead the Cresta list: rev limiters from Bee R and boost controllers from HKS, APEXi and Blitz from the electronics range. Clutch kits and overhaul parts from the drivetrain range follow, many of them ORC, along with intercooler kits and radiator caps from the cooling range.

Pads and rotors from the brakes range, mostly Project Mu, come next, then arms and tie rod ends from the handling range from makers such as D-Max, Cusco and Ikeya Formula. Oil pan baffles, replacement filters and steering wheel boss kits make up the rest.

Genuine parts

The Cresta's sedan body is its own: doors, glass, weather strips, lamps and trim are Cresta parts, not shared with the Mark II or Chaser hardtops. Grilles, bumpers and tail lights also depend on whether the car was built before or after September 1994. Wheels
