The DC2 Integra Type R

The DC2 is the three-door coupe Integra Type R, on sale in Japan from 16 October 1995 until the third-generation Integra ended in 2001. Its B18C is a 1,797 cc DOHC VTEC four with hand-polished intake ports and about 60 parts of its own, rated at 200 PS at 8,000 rpm and 181 Nm at 7,500 rpm, or 111 PS a litre. Drive goes to the front wheels through a close-ratio five-speed manual and a helical limited-slip differential. A thinner windscreen and less sound deadening helped keep the 96 spec car to 1,060 kg.

The 98 spec of January 1998 brought 16-inch wheels on five-stud hubs, larger front discs, a 4-1 exhaust manifold that moved peak torque down to 6,200 rpm, and a shorter final drive (4.785:1). The Type R X of December 1999 added CD audio and keyless entry.

What DC2 owners upgrade

Brake calipers and pads from the brakes range lead the orders. Headers and full systems from the exhaust range and electronics such as rev limiters get the most from the B18C, and timing belts and engine mounts from the engine range keep it healthy.

For the track, owners fit clutch-type LSD upgrade kits and lighter flywheels from the drivetrain range, seat rails for bucket seats, and aero kits from Varis and Zerofighter. Spoon, HKS, Toda and Mugen are among the other names DC2 owners choose.

Genuine parts

The B18C is tough but uses a little oil even when driven gently, so check the level often. The cambelt and plugs are due at 60,000 miles or about five years. Hard track use wears the second- and third-gear synchros and the clutch, and the slave cylinder can weep. Rust gathers in the rear arches and sills, leaking rear light seals let water into the boot, and the thin windscreen cracks easily.

Wheels

The 96 spec came on 15x6 +50 wheels with 195/55R15 tyres, and the 98 spec on 16x7 +50 with 215/45R16 on five studs (5x114.3). Both use M12 x 1.5 nuts. Larger sizes are under wheels that fit the DC2.
