The V35 of June 2001 was the first Skyline without a straight-six. It began as a new sedan for Nissan's Infiniti brand, previewed by the XVL concept at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show, took the Skyline name during Nissan's restructuring, and was sold abroad as the Infiniti G35. Its FM (front midship) platform, shared with the Z33 Fairlady Z, sets a compact VQ V6 behind the front axle line.
The sedan launched with direct-injection V6s, the 2.5-litre VQ25DD at 215 PS and the 3.0-litre VQ30DD at 260 PS, and the 250GT FOUR added ATTESA E-TS four-wheel drive. The 350GT-8 of early 2002 brought the 3.5-litre VQ35DE, at 272 PS with a paddle-shifted gearbox of eight set ratios. The CPV35 coupe followed in January 2003 with the VQ35DE at 280 PS and 363 Nm, a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic, and a 52:48 weight balance. The sedan was built until 2006 and the coupe until 2007.
LSD upgrade kits from the drivetrain range lead, from makers such as OS Giken and Cusco. Brake pads from the brakes range, adjustable arms from the handling range for lowered cars, and wheel spacers follow.
For the engine, panel filters and piping from the intake range and a full exhaust system give the VQ more voice, while oil filters, fuel pumps, fuel caps and radiator caps keep it in shape. Nismo, OS Giken, Cusco, HKS, Fujitsubo and Project Mu are among the names V35 owners choose.
A clunk from the front over bumps is usually a worn compression rod bushing, more often on lowered cars. Window regulators fail with age, and high-mileage VQ35DE engines can use oil, so check the level between services. Our genuine Nissan parts catalogue lists the V35's sedan and coupe parts.
Factory wheels run from 16x6.5 +40 through 17x7 +45 to 18x7.5 +45, on a 5x114.3 bolt pattern with M12 x 1.25 nuts. The full list is on the wheels that fit the V35 Skyline.
